The Shanghai Language Services Centre for Cultural Trade (SLSCCT) was established in May 2013 with support from the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. It is operated through Shanghai Venture Language Services Co., Ltd. with the following goals: providing comprehensive professional language services, including top quality translation and interpretation; foreign language training and consultation; improving the cultural trade industry chain; eliminating language barriers to cultural trade; and increasing the total import and export volume and added value of cultural trade in Shanghai.
SLSCCT works in the public interest, and also responds to the needs of cultural enterprises to promote the development of China's culture industry. It plays an important role in promoting Chinese culture abroad. SLSCCT has been managing the Shanghai Culture Series English Project since 2013. The project consists of 12 books, including Shanghai Ladies, Shanghai Architectural Legacy and Shanghai Food, giving a comprehensive introduction to Shanghai culture.

Since 2014, with "Shanghai: Mosaic of Dreams" as the theme, SLSCCT has been entrusted by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality to run international promotional campaigns for Shanghai, and introduce a whole set of international promotional products including micro films, books and picture albums. This project integrates the local cultural, film and publication resources of Shanghai, unveiling the essence of the Mosaic of Dreams in an appealing way.

Following the principle of keeping pace with international markets and boosting the overall quality of the language service industry, the first overseas office of SLSCCT was established in London in April 2017, marking its first critical step into the international arena. This represents a significant expansion of the business, laying a solid foundation for the diversification of SLSCCT.
In future, SLSCCT will carry out research for policy consultancy on promoting Chinese culture abroad. It will also research the current status and development trends of China's language service industry, evaluate the language service market, and establish professional platforms for information sharing within the industry. It will conduct surveys of the international language service market, to analyse and draw upon the relevant policies of other countries, providing policy consultation and training services to improve China's language service system.
