In South Africa, building materials are distributed mainly in general chain stores, including Builders warehouse, Cash Build, MICA Hardware, and Build-It. Builders warehouse, a subsidiary of the public company Massmart, has nearly 100 stores nationwide. Cash Build is also a publicly traded company with a total of 222 stores throughout Southern Africa. MICA Hardware, a subsidiary of Super Group, has 140 stores throughout the country, although they are smaller than those of the previous two companies. Of the four companies, Build-it is the smallest one in terms of store area, 500-700 square meters on average. When it had only 36 stores in 2000, Build-It adopted the franchise strategy and began to expand rapidly. At present, it has a total of 285 stores in Southern Africa. In addition to those general chain stores, there are also floor tile stores (Itltile, CTM Tile, and Tile Africa), wood stores (Timber Land), and bathroom accessory stores (Bathroom Bizzard and Saffer).
