The financial institution Barclays set up a shared services organization in India in the middle of the 21st century. Now, the organization has more than 9,000 employees. To reduce operational risk, Barclays has selected South Africa as a strategic position. In 2012, the company set up a shared services organization in the country to support its operations in 12 African countries, including contact with customers, business expansion and payment processing. To date, Barclays has set up shared services organizations in the following cities: Pretoria (3,300 seats), Johannesburg (3,000 seats), Cape Town (1,000 seats), and Kempton Park (700 seats)
