China Haisum Engineering Co., Ltd. (China Haisum) was established in December 2002 after the restructuring of the eight Grade A Design Institutes of the China Light Industry Shanghai Design Institute and the Light Industry Department under the former Ministry of Light Industry. It is the first listed company specializing in design services in China.
Headquartered in Shanghai, China Haisum has 11 wholly-owned subsidiaries in Beijing, Guangzhou, Changsha, Wuhan, Nanning, Chengdu and Xi’an. The company has nearly 5,000 technicians of various types, including three national design masters and nearly 2,000 registered professionals. At the same time, the company has more than 1,000 patents in the fields of paper making, pulp, sugar, and waste incineration.
In recent years, the company has actively taken advantage of industry trends and participated in many overseas activities. It has also undertaken a series of landmark engineering contracting projects, such as the An Hua pulp and paper mill project in Vietnam, the packaging paper production line project of Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Limited with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year in Vietnam, the Mekelle comprehensive plant project involving an annual output of 60,000 tons of PVC resin in Ethiopia, the ITTIHAD project in the United Arab Emirates involving annual production of 330,000 tons of printing and writing paper, the OMO-Kuraz sugar plant project in Ethiopia with a capacity of 6,000 tons of cane per day, the University City project in Algeria, the PPN cogeneration project in Indonesia, the CLVP wastewater treatment project in Vietnam, and the VKPC project, which produces 220,000 tons of corrugated paper in Vietnam.
Adhering to a general contracting model with design at its core and following the Belt and Road initiative, China Haisum has seized historical opportunities and expanded its overseas market, with footprints all over the world. It has established partnership with countries in Africa such as Mali, Ethiopia and Gambia, European countries such as Ukraine and Serbia, Middle East countries such as the United Arab Emirates, and Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Thailand.
In addition to consolidating the advantages of traditional industries, China Haisum has also made active efforts to explore emerging markets. In 2011, the company won the bid for the “Treasure Bay” design project of Shanghai Disneyland, and ultimately won the “Outstanding Achievement Award – Attractions” by the World Theme Entertainment Association (TEA). In 2017, the company won the bid for the Beijing Universal Theme Park design project. In the second half of 2018, China Haisum won the bid for the “Hubei Xinye Tobacco Sheet Development Co., Ltd. on-site technical transformation EPC general contracting project” and officially signed the “Hubei Zhongyan New Industry Sheet on-site technical transformation EPC general contracting project”. At the same time, the company officially started the “EPC Project of Dongbang Chemical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.”.
