Sino-British Submarine Systems Co., Ltd. (SBSS) is a consortium of China Communications Services Co., Ltd. and British Global Maritime Co., Ltd., specializing in submarine cable, optical cable installation and maintenance, and other related businesses. It is the only joint venture which boasts international competitiveness and a participant in all of China’s international cable network construction.
To date, SBSS can reach a depth of up to 10 meters underwater for cable laying through its underwater equipment system. A total of more than 46,000 kilometers of submarine communication cables has been installed worldwide. It has installed seven major systems in the Asia-Pacific region and provided support and maintenance for submarine cables with a length of more than 80,000 kilometers in that region.
The interregional installation services of the Trans-Pacific Direct System, the Asia-Pacific Gateway Cable System, the Asia-Europe 5, the Southeast Asia-US Cable System, and the Malaysia-Cambodia-Thai Cable System are all located in the Asia- Pacific region. In 2003, SBSS officially entered the offshore oil and gas field industry and carried out a large number of projects concerning underwater power cable engineering, design and installation. The company has achieved remarkable results in power infrastructure projects, including the Isla Margerita project in Venezuela, the Kerch-Tamar project in Russia and in early 2018 the Bangladesh cable installation project. In addition, in October 2018, SBSS successfully completed the Stingray cable installation project commissioned by Ifactors.
The 2017 coastal wind farm project opened a new chapter for SBSS in the field of renewable energy in China's offshore wind power industry. In 2018, SBSS and Tekmar signed a memorandum of cooperation to support inter-unit cable protection in China's offshore wind power market. In the same year, SBSS welcomed its partner CWind. They will use the knowledge and experience in wind power operation and maintenance gained from more than 50 wind farms in Europe to provide comprehensive operation and maintenance services to customers on a global scale.
In terms of social responsibility, SBSS often provides timely assistance on special occasions, including cable repair following the Japanese earthquake, network security assurance for the G20 summit and shipwreck salvage for the Sichuan Guangyuan, among others. By doing so, the company aims to enhance its recognition among the public.
