VeriSilicon Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (“VeriSilicon”) is a Silicon Platform as a Service (SiPaaS) company that provides a comprehensive suite of core IP and customized one-stop services for world-class System on a Chip (SoC).
Founded in 2001, after years of technology development and business exploration, its IP cores and SiPaaS solutions both rank No.1 in China and are gaining a world-leading position. VeriSilicon has over 700 employees, 5 R&D centers, and 10 sales offices. In 2018, it realized revenue of 1 billion RMB.
VeriSilicon provides comprehensive SoC and SiP solutions for the wide terminal markets including mobile internet devices, data centers, the Internet of Things (IoT), automotive, industrial, and medical electronics. Its customers include domestic and overseas semiconductor producers, system producers, and internet and cloud platform suppliers. VeriSilicon has two major businesses of IP cores and customized chips.
IP cores refer to the functional modules of chips that are pre-designed, verified, and sold to chip design companies. They serve as the cornerstone for building SoC. VeriSilicon's IP cores boast world-leading technologies, making them strong enough to fully substitute similar products produced by overseas giants. In terms of product completeness, VeriSilicon owns large-scale core digital IPs and over 1,300 various mixed-signal and analog IPs. As for technical quality, some of its products are preferred by top customers after a strict selection process and have proven best performances in the industry. Its automotive electronic solutions have been adopted by many domestic and overseas manufacturers. Among the world’s top ten automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), seven use the GPU of VeriSilicon for their in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems; among the world’s top ten luxury automotive brands, six use the GPU of VeriSilicon for their reconfigurable instrument panels. Currently, more than 75 million automobiles around the world use the GPU of VeriSilicon.
Chip customization services used to outsource some functions in the chip design and featured a project-based and business fragmented process, making it hard to realize scale production. Since its inception until the end of 2017, VeriSilicon had completed more than 600 design projects in total for nearly 130 customers worldwide, with its processing scope ranging from 0.18 microns to 7nm and involving a variety of special technological processes, such as FD-SOI and high voltage CMOS. VeriSilicon has made outstanding achievements in advanced technological processes. The 10nm chip it developed has delivered more than 20,000 wafers. It also developed the world's first EUV 7nm-based chip for one tape-out. Its products are applied in the fields of mobile devices, IoT, automotive electronics, and information security. The SoC VeriSilicon customized for AImotive (an autonomous vehicle technology company in Europe) benchmarking automated driving level 4, the first of its kind in the world, is being tested in OEMs in North America, Europe, and Japan. VeriSilicon upgraded AImotive's former Nvidia GPU (16nm FinFET)-based automated driving plan with the power consumption of over 1000 watts into an ASIC plan that used Globalfoundries 22nm FD-SOI and had the total power consumption of less than 120 watts.
In the future, VeriSilicon will play an increasingly important role in China's home-made chips and customized chips for system producers to actively satisfy the needs of an era of intelligence.
