Film Is a Bridge to Enable Culture to Go Global
Shanghai Film Co., Ltd. (abbreviated to “Shangying Shares” below) was jointly initiated and established by Shanghai Film (Group) Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Jingwen Investment Co., Ltd. The company’s major business ranges from film distribution, cinema complexes, marketing media, cinema investment operations, and e-commerce platforms to film and television technology. It also plays a pivotal role in the market for all its business areas.
The core strategy of Shangying Shares is “release priority.” The film “The Graver Robbers’ Chronicles” produced by Shangying Shares set a good record for the 2016 summer box office championship, and was also released in Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, North America, Indonesia, and Myanmar, among other places. In addition to the online video sites in those countries, it was also launched in cinemas worldwide, including North America (Canada and the United States), Australia (Australia and New Zealand), Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Thailand, which has actively promoted and implemented the global aviation broadcast rights, global SVOD on-demand rights, and other services.
The film “The Boundary” was sold to Taiwan, and more than sixty classic films have been released on YouTube. The animations “Dream Story” and “Egg Plan” were broadcast on Singapore’s state television, while another animation “Happy Baby” was even exported to North America.
In 2017, the company actively took steps to promote overseas sales of its film and television products and pushed more excellent Chinese film and television programs onto the international market. The movies “Mr. Black: Green Star,” “Uproar In Heaven 3D,” and “Shanghai King” produced by Shangying Shares did well with on-demand broadcasting and new media services in Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, and other countries. The Chinese animation series “Egg Plan” and “Youth Master” have also made a big difference to on-demand sales in Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, and other countries.
In addition, the Shanghai Film Art Center, affiliated to Shanghai Film Co., Ltd., is the main venue for the Shanghai International Film Festival, one of the world’s eleven Class A international film festivals. The Shanghai Film Art Center is not only a link for exchanges between Chinese and foreign films – it is also a window through which China sees the whole international film industry. It acts as a stage for presenting great achievements of cultural constructions within the Shanghai metropolis. Since its establishment, the Shanghai Film Art Center has become famous for hosting various film exhibitions in many countries, with many Chinese and international stars passing through.
In 2018, Shangying Shares continues to uphold its motto “culture going global” to further strengthen its overseas distribution business for films, expand the territory of its oversea distribution, and promote more Chinese films internationally, acting as a business card to the world to introduce the splendid culture of the new generation in China.
