Creating a Copyright Hub for Chinese Film and Television Culture to Go Global

Shanghai Wingsmedia Co., Ltd. (abbreviated to “Wingsmedia” below) is not only affiliated to Shanghai Media group (SMG), but also a copyright operating group platform company of Oriental Pearl Group Co., Ltd. (OPG). The company was founded in 2004, and specializes in comprehensive Chinese and international copyright content management, IP operations, and investments. In addition, it is also committed to nurturing the global Chinese language content market and creating a copyright marketing hub. Apart from the contents of the large copyright library of SMG and OPG, products also include variety shows, TV series, animations, and other self-owned and co-operative IP content creations and operations. To date, Wingsmedia has been named one of “the key enterprises of national cultural exports” and a “national key export project֊” by five ministries and commissions for twelve consecutive years. It has also been referred to by the New York Times and the Financial Times as “a pioneer among Chinese media companies who have entered the international market.”

Wingsmedia has now established close and long-term partnerships with mainstream media organizations in more than 120 countries and regions around the world. It not only effectively increases the influence and brand name awareness of SMG and OPG programs but also expands the influence of Chinese language content. For instance, the 3D panoramic sound version of the Peking opera “Farewell My Concubine,” which was jointly organized by Wingsmedia and Malaysian media organization The Star Online, is a perfect combination of Peking opera and popular film art, and brings international audiences an unprecedented experience that they won’t ever discover in a traditional theater. It therefore plays a huge role in recording and spreading the art of Peking opera.

The co-operation between Wingsmedia and Sinovision in the United States has been listed as a key national project for cultural exports. Consequently, Wingsmedia has continuously strengthened its co-operation with the Sinovision English Channel to provide more popular and richer programs, and supplement domestic high-quality programs in order to help the excellent domestic Chinese culture “go global.”

As the core operating company of the OPG Copyright Operation Group, Wingsmedia is not relying on the capital strength of listed companies to build the largest super film library in China, and become the marketing hub for programs for the Chinese language market. Meanwhile, Wingsmedia will further expand its overseas markets, promote the export of high-quality copyright content in China, especially in Shanghai, and devote itself to creating a copyright hub for more Chinese film and television culture to go global through international exhibitions, media summits, and other high-quality platforms.
