Shanghai United Cinema Circuit Co., Ltd. ("United Cinema"), established in 2002, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Film Co., Ltd. and one of the largest cinema companies in China. United Cinema has a total of more than 530 franchised theatres, with more than 3,200 screens and 476,400 seats in 151 prefecture-level cities in 28 provinces. Its operations cover a wide range of areas including ticketing, distribution, publicity, movie spin-off products, and the movie merchandise market.
In 2017, United Cinema's box office sales reached RMB 4.244 billion, accounting for 8.14% of China's total box office sales. The total number of viewers was 123 million, and the total number of screenings was 4,732,400, the third highest in China.

In 2017, to effectively implement the learning activities of "the theoretical and practical issues of Party building", United Cinema planned and launched an innovative event to show outstanding domestic films on the theme of "My Film Classroom 2017", which featured around 20 outstanding domestic films with ideological, artistic, aesthetic and educational content. The event also included film screenings, thematic curation, and expert presentations, covering 80 cinemas in Shanghai with an integrated online platform, and embodying the idea of "Internet Plus". The event was well received by participants for its original format and rich content.
