The Shanghai International Literary Week
The Shanghai International Literary Week, or SILW, is sponsored by the State Administration of Radio and Television, the Municipal Government of Shanghai, hosted by the Publicity Department of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, the Shanghai Municipal Press and Publication Bureau, and co-organized by the Jing'an District Authority.
With the theme of "Enjoy Reading, Enjoy Life", and the motto of "Based in Shanghai, Serving Readers Across the Nation", the Shanghai Book Fair has become a nationally recognised cultural brand and a demonstration reading platform after more than ten years of development and brand building.
The book fair caters to readers of all kind. It is mainly targeted at the retail market, but also offers the sale of published works, group buying of printed books, the latest news from the publishing industry, summits, new product launches, the discussion of published works, and the promotion of reading.
Recently, a number of book fairs have been held in Shanghai, like the "Shuxiang China" Reading Forum, the Publication Forum with China-related Themes, symposiums on the latest works of famous authors, the Forum on Chinese Academic Works Going Global and more. The Shanghai International Literary Week and Shanghai International Children's Book Fair (CCBF) are even helping the book fairs in Shanghai to make a foray into the international market.
The Shanghai International Literary Week is one of the most important cultural brands in Shanghai, introducing the works of foreign authors to Chinese readers. Meanwhile, it also plays an important role in introducing Chinese writers to the global community. The CCBF is the only exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region that is devoted to publishing children's books. It plays an increasingly prominent role in the international market, and is expected to become the second largest children's book fair after the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy.
