Influencing the world

— Performing Arts Fair of the China Shanghai International Arts Festival

The China Shanghai International Arts Festival is a major international cultural event sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and hosted by the Shanghai Local Authority. It is the only national-level comprehensive international arts festival in China and also one of the most famous art festivals in the world. It serves as a key window for China's cultural exchange with other countries.

As a representative brand event of the festival, the Performing Arts Fair is held every year during the opening ceremony. It is China's most international, high-level and high-profile trade fair for performance arts.

Since its inception in 1999, the scale of the Performing Arts Fair has continued to expand, and it has become a gateway for the international performing arts industry to enter China's huge market and learn about and select outstanding Chinese performing arts shows. In 2017, more than 500 organisations and more than 1,000 participants from 60 countries and regions participated in the festival.

A number of special projects included in the Festival have facilitated cultural exchange between China and overseas cultures entering the Chinese market, such as the signing ceremony for "outbound projects" which focuses on exporting art, to improve the rate of performance projects being signed and to enable excellent Chinese literary and art works to "go global".
